Shop owner murdered at the BNP office in Narayanganj

A sad and shocking event happened in Narayanganj. A shop owner named Jahangir Hossain (58) was beaten to death inside the BNP office. This has made many people worried about political violence and misuse of power.

Jahangir Hossain had a small grocery shop. After fall of the Awami League regime last year, the local leaders from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) took over his shop and made it their party office. But for many months, the BNP did not pay the rent they owed him. On July 30, 2025, Jahangir went to the BNP office to ask for his rent. At that time, the local BNP leaders who were present there including Tota Mia and his son beat him. His family and some local people said the BNP members took him inside the office and beat him badly.

Later, Mr. Jahangir was taken to Hospital. But the doctors said he was already dead. His family said his body had injury marks. His head was severely injured. They are asking for justice. However, BNP leaders said they did not beat him to death. They said that their leader Tota mia only slapped Jahangir and added that Jahangir also raised his hands on Tota mia. Later, he fell ill during the scuffle.

Police has started investigating the case. They have already named some BNP members. People in the area are very angry and want strong action.

This is not just a murder. It is also a violation of human rights. Every person has the right to ask for justice without fear. If Jahangir was killed just for asking for rent, it is a serious crime and a cruel act. It also shows how political offices are being used for violence.

The government and police must find the truth and punish the culprits, no matter which political party they belong to. People want justice for Jahangir and want to feel safe in their country. SRO strongly condemns this incident of inhumanity and demand justice.
