Businessman dies after falling victim to ‘Dope Gang’ in Dhaka

A tragic incident unfolded in the capital on Tuesday as a businessman lost his life after allegedly falling prey to a notorious “dope gang” on a passenger bus. The victim, identified as Mizanur Rahman (42), was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3:30 PM while undergoing treatment.

According to his younger brother, Mainuddin, Mizanur ran a clothing business at “Nur Mansion” in New Market and lived in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. He had left home in the morning aboard a Rajonigandha Paribahan bus for Dhaka. Around noon, transport workers called his family, informing them that Mizanur was found unconscious inside the bus. With assistance from others, he was rushed to the hospital, but doctors could not save his life. Family sources said that Mizanur was heading to Gulistan, near the banned Awami League party office, to consult a lawyer on tax-related issues when the incident occurred. Inspector Md. Faruk of DMCH police outpost confirmed that Mizanur’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

This incident has once again shed light on the alarming presence of dope gangs in Dhaka, who exploit unsuspecting passengers, leaving them unconscious and, in many cases, dead. Such acts are not only heinous crimes but also a grave violation of human rights, as citizens are being denied their fundamental right to life and security.

Urgent Need for Action

Human rights defenders and concerned citizens have called upon the authorities to take immediate and strict measures to eliminate such criminal networks. Experts suggest:

Without decisive action, such incidents will continue to instill fear among ordinary people and undermine public trust in law and order. The death of Mizanur Rahman serves as a wake-up call for both policymakers and law enforcers to prioritize public safety and uphold human rights with urgency.
